Project Narrative:
The goal when designing the Glass House was to created an industrial type of space that would merge with the surrounding industrial area the the Glass House was located in. We wanted the industrial atmosphere of the place to correspond and interact with its surroundings, integrating it into the architectural community that it is a part of.
To create this raw industrial atmosphere the materials chosen were steel, wood, and concrete. The steel was incorporated in the façade steel curtain form, the ceiling above the bar, and the bar itself. By having these three main elements be steel it created a smooth transition from the outside of the building to the interior space. To make the steel elements appear to be alive and not so cold, wood elements were added in tables and passage ways as contrasting accents to the steel.
