Project Narrative:
The Sangsland residence was innovatively re-design specifically to enhance, preserve and embrace the mid-century aesthetic in which it was originally built. Energy efficient glazing was incorporated throughout the home to help integrate the design into the 21 century, while maintaining its mid-century aesthetic.
The new plan creates several intimate outdoor spaces that engage the house to develop seamless transitions between interior and exterior spaces. Many rooms now open onto these courtyards, which were designed and created specifically to compliment their adjacent uses. The newly added roof lines are distinctly mid-century, which expresses a sleek character while providing functional shade during the summer months along with solar access during the winter months. Custom made trellises and fencing elements were then integrated to compliment the distinctive horizontal lines of the home.
